§ 44-132. Minimum widths.

  • (a)

    Minimum right-of-way widths. The minimum right-of-way widths for streets, alleys and crosswalkways shall be as follows:

    (1)

    Section line streets: 100 feet;

    (2)

    Half section line streets: 80 feet;

    (3)

    All other streets: 66 feet;

    (4)

    Alleys: 20 feet;

    (5)

    Crosswalkways: ten feet.

    (b)

    Minimum roadway widths (curb to curb). Minimum curb-to-curb roadway widths shall be as follows:

    (1)

    Rights-of-way shall be paved in accordance with the specifications of this division or such revisions as may be made from time to time according to the minimum widths measured face to face of the curblines specified as follows:

    a.

    Major streets: 34 feet;

    b.

    Secondary streets: 28 feet;

    c.

    Alleys (in business or industrial districts): 20 feet;

    d.

    Crosswalkways: five feet;

    e.

    Sidewalks (in commercial or industrial districts): eight feet;

    f.

    Sidewalks (in residential districts): five feet.

    (2)

    The board of trustees may, in its discretion, increase or decrease the width of a particular proposed street to ensure the free flow of traffic and the safety of village residents.
