§ 2-365. Creation and membership.

  • (a)

    Establishment of board; appointment and terms of members. A planning and zoning board is hereby authorized to be established. The word "board," when used in this division, shall be construed to mean the planning and zoning board. The board shall consist of seven members appointed by the president of the village by and with the consent of the board of trustees of the village. The members of such board shall serve staggered two year terms such that the term of three members expires in one year and the term of four members expires the following year. At the end of terms, board members shall serve until their successors are appointed and qualified.

    (b)

    Appointment of chairperson; filling of vacancies. One of the members so appointed shall be named as chairperson at the time of his appointment. The appointing authority has the power to remove any member of the board for cause and after public hearing. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term of the member whose place has become vacant.

    (c)

    Adoption of rules; appointment of officers. The planning and zoning board shall adopt its own rules of procedure not in conflict with this or with the statutes of the state in such case made and provided, and may select or appoint such officers as it deems necessary. The village board of trustees may provide general or specific rules implementing, but not inconsistent with, the rules provided in this division to govern determinations of the planning and zoning board.
